What I do and how I work

  • WHAT I DO

I bring precision and vitality to your prose. My work strengthens your connection to your audience. I make sure to understand exactly what your copy requires.

I do developmental edits, copyedits, and copywriting.

Some of the elements of writing that I look at are its goals and impact, logic and clarity, structure and flow, word choice and socially responsible language, voice and tone, and choices of grammar, style and formatting.

  • HOW I WORK

I become familiar with the voice, vision, and goals of the project by asking plenty of questions and inviting your feedback as we start work.

Depending on the type of edit and your preferences, I may deliver my own writing or rewriting to you; give you an evaluation that tells you how to make your own changes; and/or walk you through my changes so that your team can learn from the editing process.

I communicate using phone (an undervalued tool, in my opinion!), virtual and in-person meetings, and tracked changes and comments within documents.

  • WHAT I WORK ON

Genres I work in most often:

    • institutional collateral (e.g., marketing material, web copy)

    • didactics (curricula, textbooks)

    • academic work (theses, articles, books)

    • personal nonfiction (public scholarship, op-eds, applications)

    • transcripts (i.e., editing interviews, speeches, panels as prose)

Topics I work in most often:

    • psychology, cognitive science, child development

    • education and pedagogy

    • privilege and marginalization (including for DEI initiatives and sensitivity reads)

    • multilingualism and multiculturalism

    • queer and trans lives

If your project isn’t one of those categories but you have a sense I’d be a good fit, get in touch and we’ll talk!
